SIMULTANEOUS

The interpreter uses equipment such as microphones, headsets and soundproof booths to translate the speaker’s words in real time with a minimal time lag.  The interpreter can also work remotely, either from home or from dedicated centres known as interpreting hubs, using online communication and translation 

CONSECUTIVE

The interpreter, who is positioned next to the speaker, listens to what is being said, taking notes if necessary, and then reproduces it section by section in the target language. 

CHUCHOTAGE

The interpreter simultaneously ‘whispers’ (from the French verb ‘chuchoter’, ‘to whisper’) their translation of what is being said into the ears of one or two people in another language. This is often combined with consecutive interpreting.  

LIAISON

The interpreter facilitates communication between two parties. This is generally performed bilingually (in both directions) and in person. This is recommended for small groups.

OFF-SCREEN or UN-STYLE VOICE-OVER of videos by native speakers

An off-screen voice-over involves recording the voice of a person who is off-screen (for corporate videos, presentations, documentaries, etc.).

A UN-style voice-over involves recording an unsynchronised dub of an audio track in another language and superimposing it over the voice of the original speaker, which can still be heard in the background.
